70th Annual Ye Olde Hometown Christmas Parade

December 3

Now 70 years old, the Winter Park Holiday Parade is the oldest in Central Florida. It’s a big deal, and the celebration lasts for an hour and a half.

The parade draws thousands along its route from Park Avenue to New England Avenue, ending at Hannibal Square. More than 80 organizations participate, including Boy Scout troops, elected officials, dignitaries, marching bands, and schools such as Winter Park High School and Full Sail University.

Parade sponsor, the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, is introducing this year’s special float that heralds the upcoming milestone.

“The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce turns 100 in 2023, and we’ll kick off the celebration with a Centennial float carrying current and past board seats in the Ye Olde Town Christmas Parade,” said Betsy Gardner Eckbert, chamber president and CEO.

This year’s Grand Marshal is David Odachowski, president and CEO of the Edith Bush Foundation. Orlando Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell, who always keeps the action entertaining, leads the way.

They invite marchers and spectators to wake up at 7 a.m. for a pancake breakfast with all the fixings in Central Park hosted by the chamber’s Leadership Winter Park team. 9 a.m. Saturday, December 3rd. winterpark.org CV

46th Annual Apopka Christmas Parade

December 10

The Apopka Christmas Parade is one of the best community events of the year, drawing more than 25,000 people each December.

For some perspective, the city has a population of about 57,000. So crowds of nearly half the population flock to the Leafy Capital of the World Inside to experience one of the largest holiday parades in Central Florida.

The Foliage Sertoma Club of Apopka and the City of Apopka are sponsoring the parade this year, which is being judged by Spectrum News 13’s Ybet Bruzual and Trudy Wilde, Community Grants and Outreach Director for United Arts of Central Florida.

“The theme of this year’s parade is ‘Florida Christmas Day!’ “I’m sure we’ll be disappointed with the creativity of the community at the parade,” said Lorena Potter, club president and parade chairman.

The parade begins at 10 a.m., and spectators are encouraged to line Park Avenue at least two hours early to get the best view of the holiday treats handed out by participants. Saturday, December 10, 10 a.m. foliagestoma.org CV
