Olivia Colman is ‘incredibly proud’ of Keith Connor.
The Oscar-winning actor’s on-screen son in Netflix drama Heartstopper recently came out as bisexual after it went viral, and the former “The Crown” star admires the 18-year-old actor’s handling of himself under public scrutiny. He criticized the “unfair” circumstances surrounding the confession.
He told Variety: “I’m very proud of him, but I’m not proud of how people bullied him.
“I think people should be allowed to have their own journey. But as a young person who has gone through all that and is in the spotlight, I’m so proud of her. It’s unfair. But she’s amazing. She’s a beautiful person.” said.
The 43-year-old actress, who has three children with husband Ed Sinclair, didn’t hesitate to sign up for the adult drama.
She said: “Before I read it, I said yes and read it and went, ‘Oh, this is really important.'”
Keith took to Twitter in a rare post to clarify his sexuality after some accused him of being “weird” after he was photographed holding hands with “Cuban Girl Tea & Tomorrow” co-star Maya Reficco in October.
He wrote: “Come back a minute. I’m me.
“Congratulations on getting the 18-year-old girl out. I think some of you missed the point of the show. Goodbye.”
‘Heartstopper’ creator, writer and showrunner Alice Oseman lent her support behind the star with a powerful tweet.
She responded: “I really don’t understand how people watch ‘Heart Arrest’ and then spend their time making assumptions about sex and judging based on stereotypes.”
“I hope all those people are embarrassed as F***. Keith you are amazing”.
