SHERIDAN — Emily Murs’ installation “Magic” opens Thursday, Dec. 8, in the Edward A. Whitney Gallery inside the Whitney Center for the Performing Arts. On Thursday at 4 p.m., Murs will talk about his creative process, followed by a reception at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
By combining large-scale paper and highly textured hand-cut fabric, Moores will explore the sensibility of weaving and its ability to express feelings. The artist uses playful body movements to increase energy, release positive endorphins, and improve memory. Through his work, he uses colorful patterns, textures and ornaments to transform spaces into whimsical and captivating environments, according to Moore’s official website.
“My subtle patterns and design elements playfully shift and change as an individual walks through my installations,” says Moores. “Movement is necessary to see my work fully. People walking back and forth in the space get a new experience by seeing my installation a second or third time.”
Murs is a visual artist living and working in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2008 and his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati in 2014. Murs was named one of the 2020 Women to Watch by the Ohio State Arts Council’s Riff Gallery. Ohio Advisory Group for the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Murs has also received awards such as the Ohio Cultural Arts Independent Artist Award, the Summerfair Independent Artist Grant, and the ArtPrize Seed Grant.
