MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Athletics, Learfield Amplify, Mountaineer Sports Marketing and UScellular have partnered on Youth Sports Day 2022 for the upcoming Mountaineer basketball season.
Youth Sports Day is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 10 against UAB at 6 p.m. It’s an initiative that will give area kids access to an exclusive pregame clinic hosted by WVU’s Center for Applied Coaching and Sports Science.
“Athletics development is critical to both athletic success and lifelong health and well-being,” said Kristen Dieffenbach, the center’s director. “Experience with a variety of sports and activities that support children’s skill development and physical fitness is critical. WVU’s Center for Applied Coaching and Sports Science is excited to partner with WVU Athletics to provide children with a sample youth sports experience. provides an opportunity for WVU students majoring in coaching and sports science to share their passion and knowledge of sports with the community.”
All children, families, friends and coaches are welcome to participate. Tickets are only $15 per person. The first 500 kids to register will receive a free WVU Youth Sports Day shirt, courtesy of UScellular.
Now in its second year, Youth Basketball Sports Day is an event that has seen tremendous growth since its launch in 2019.
“We are excited to be a part of this exciting local event that promotes skill development and physical activity,” said Nakeita Stewart, UScellular’s director of Atlantic sales.
Pre-game festivities begin at 3:30pm in the WVU Shell Building, located directly behind the WVU Coliseum. Registration begins at 3:15 p.m. All participants must sign a waiver upon arrival and be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian. T-shirts are available at the registration desk. The hospital is encouraging fans to enter the stadium using the Golden Gate, which ends at 5:30 p.m.
