Cameron Norrie was the last Briton in the singles draw at Roland Garros

Britain No. 1 Cameron Norrie was eliminated from the French Open in the third round after losing in four sets to Karen Khachanov.

Norrie aimed to advance to the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career, but fell 6-2 7-5 5-7 6-4 in the 21st seed.

The loss of the British no. 1 puts an end to British interest in the main draws of the only Grand Slam field competition in Paris.

Norrie had a number of early chances to face Khachanov. Only in the first set, he forced eight break points, but failed to return any.

By the time the British player bounced back 4-2 in the second, he had lost 11 breaks in total, while Khachanov had turned them into three goals.

In the 12th moment of the request, Norri penetrated, a well-worked point ended with a volley in the net to return to service the second set.

Then, a certain point for Norrie in Khachanov’s service came and went, and instead it was the power of the 21st seed that forced errors and gave him a two-set lead.

It was the same story at the beginning of the third; Norri created two break points, lost both and broke immediately again.

Khachanov twice regained the 10th title in the group and Norrie finished the job with a break to return it to fourth place.

However, the effort seemed to have caused Norrie, and Khachanov started the set – which is now being played in the spotlight of Paris – like a subway train, shouting 5-1 ahead.

Norrie fought to the end, saving three game points before breaking for 3-5, but underwent a powerful service game, which Khachanov ended with an ACE in the middle.

“Cameron is a very good player,” Khachanov said later on the pitch. “It makes you feel like you have to build every point.

“It was a really big competition, I liked it but I am devastated! The energy here in Paris is always great – I always say it is one of my favorite Grand Slams. I always play well here and I want to keep it that way. ยป

Carlos Alcaraz passes to Roland Garros in the fourth round

In the next match late Friday night, Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest man to reach the fourth round at Roland Garros since Novak Djokovic in 2006.

Alcaraz, 19, qualified by defeating Sebastian Korda 6-4 6-4 6-2 at Court Philippe-Chatrier.

The result reversed the result of a meeting between the two at the Monte Carlo Open last month, which Corda won to explain Alcaraz’s only loss on the ground in 20 games in 2022.

It was also a much smoother run for Alcaraz than their second-round match at Roland Garros on Wednesday. During this meeting, he had to save a match point before returning to win in five against his Spanish teammate Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Alcaraz improved to 31-3 overall this year, with four titles at the top of the tournament. He will now face Khachanov in the fourth round.
