We already knew, Le Havre is a land of tennis with ball. In 2018 and 2014, if the French team had already won the world championship in this discipline, it was mainly thanks to the Le Havre base of its group. The Blues have not repeated this success in Romania this year, but their performances remain extraordinary. Of the ten players present, only two were not from Le Havre: Mickaël Burel, from meetingand Amandine Riou, by Montelimar.

“A very good cohesion”

In total, the team brought home three bronze medals (singles for women, doubles for women, mixed doubles) and three silver (mixed triples, doubles for men and triples for men). “Julien Morel was great in passing, the same for Christophe Leroy behind and, in attack, we had the great Adrien Prual,” said David Bayeux, one of the three-man coaches. There was very good cohesion between the players and Thomas Lucas De Jesus was very complementary with Adrien. Mickaël Burel and Camille Deschamps also kept their ranks perfectly when they came into play, even if the latter damaged his stickers.

Two match points

And it was very close, in the main discipline, the men’s trio, for France to win the medal. In the final, the Blues had one foot on the top rung of the podium. “We had two points, but some of the referees’ decisions were not in our favor,” said David Bayeux. Le Havrais considers that at first a Romanian player took the ball with his foot, and then touched it with his upper body, which is forbidden. The judges would not have seen anything.

Despite everything, the finish in the final against Romania, the queen nation in ball tennis, remains a very high performance…!
