Vannes – Padel, a new sport in Vannes offered by the Ménimur tennis club

The Vannes Ménimur Tennis Club (VMTC) has two paddle courts, located next to its room. This should make people happy because these are the first offers in Vannes! This sport and leisure activity is a derivative of tennis, squash and badminton. It is played exclusively in teams of two on a track as large as half a tennis court and, as in pumpkin, you can play a ball that jumps from the walls or fences surrounding the track. The rackets are smaller than in tennis and the balls are the same size but with slightly less pressure. The cover is sandy carpet. “We chose the ras model, which will allow us to organize high-level tournaments,” enjoys Erik Deleau, the club’s vice-president. Investment cost: 160,000 euros or 60,000 euros payable by the club and 100,000 euros subsidized by the Region, Department, Agglo, City of Vannes and FFT.

“There is a very playful side and you can come as a family, it is very friendly. »

Open to non-members

As a Christmas gift, VMTC members were able to enjoy the fun of the sport and the experience was enjoyed by both youngsters and adults. “There is a very playful side and you can come as a family, it is very friendly. “Everyone can play it,” notes the vice president. As of Monday, January 17, VMTC has extended reservations to the entire audience. “The objective is to make this new activity known to our members but also to a wider public, to people outside the city,” explains Erik Deleau, happy to offer this popular discipline. “There are already two facilities in Morbihan, in the center of the Brittany League in Pontivy and in a private summer club in Carnac, but we are the standard club in Morbihan. Our slopes are open to the public all year round. »

A paddle school in September

If these two tracks were hoped for last September, it was necessary to wait until the end of 2021 for delivery, due to delays caused by Covid. On the other hand, the creation of a paddle school is already in the news for the month of September. “The weather is not necessarily the best in winter, but it will give people time to come and discover. The advantage of walls is that there are not many restrictions on wind and, in case of rain, the carpet can dry quickly. We want to bring schools too. »
